Growing up,
My father often said,
“Stand tall, be strong.”
So I never cried,
Kept the tears inside,
Until years later,
It all broke like a dam.
I used to believe,
Parents know best.
Yet at times,
It’s not the case.
Today I thank my father,
For teaching me,
To challenge my beliefs,
Because some things,
Learned growing up,
Need be discarded,
Not readily believed.
